M.D. IPA Gets Top Marks in Federal Employee Survey

Rockville, MD - MD-Individual Practice Association, Inc. (M.D. IPA), announced today that the Office of Personnel Management's Federal Employees Health Benefits Guide lists it as a Top Rated Plan. M.D. IPA is the only Top Rated Plan in Maryland and the District of Columbia, and one of only two Top Rated Plans in Virginia. M.D. IPA received this distinction because of its high satisfaction rate. M.D. IPA also scored above average in other survey questions posed to Federal employees.

M.D. IPA is a subsidiary of Mid Atlantic Medical Services, Inc. (MAMSI). M.D. IPA is a federally qualified health maintenance organization (HMO) serving large employer groups in Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Virginia. Federal employees may select health care coverage through M.D. IPA.

"We're pleased federal employees recognize our dedication to service," stated Susan Goff, President of M.D. IPA. "More and more employer groups are choosing M.D. IPA for their health care coverage because of our commitment to quality, service and value."

Each year, the federal Office of Personnel Management commissions the Federal Employees Health Benefits Customer Satisfaction Survey. In the 1998 survey, 90 percent of the federal employees responding to the survey reported they were satisfied with M.D. IPA. Because of M.D. IPA's satisfaction rate, M.D. IPA was designated a "Top Rated Plan" in the 1999 Federal Employee Health Benefit Plan Guide.

"Putting our customers first is our number one priority," Ms. Goff emphasized. "We continually make improvements based on what our customers tell us. For example, Federal employees told us dental benefits are important so we expanded dental benefits for 1999. And, because our customers are looking for more information on the internet we are continually expanding the information available on our web site."

Federal employees recognize the value of our network and our commitment to freedom of choice within an HMO. In the same survey, M.D. IPA performed above average on survey questions concerning continuity of care, quality of care, explanation of care, and the results of care.

"Our high scores in questions concerning access to quality care are a tribute to our provider network," remarked Vera Dvorak, M.D., Medical Director of MAMSI Health Plans. "When individuals join M.D. IPA they know they will have access to highly regarded physicians who give them the personal attention they deserve. We are proud of our participating physicians."

MAMSI is one of the largest managed care companies in the Mid-Atlantic region. Its subsidiaries cover more than 1.7 million lives in Maryland, the District of Columbia, Virginia, Delaware, West Virginia, North Carolina and Pennsylvania. Other managed care subsidiaries in M.D. IPA's service area include Optimum Choice, Inc. (OCI), a health maintenance organization, and MAMSI Life and Health Insurance Company (MLH). All MAMSI subsidiaries bring the same commitment to quality, service and value. MAMSI's internet address is www.mamsi.com.
