TWO NEW MEDICAL DIRECTORS JOIN MAMSI

Rockville, MD –- Mid Atlantic Medical Services, Inc. (MAMSI), one of the mid-Atlantic region's largest managed care companies, today announced the hiring of two additional Medical Directors: Hernan Padilla, M.D. and Joan Huppi, M.D.

Dr. Hernan Padilla, board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology, was hired as Associate Medical Director and Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs. He is responsible for Clinical Coordination for Inpatient Services. Previously, he was with Kaiser Permanente as Executive Director for Hospital and Alternative Care Services in the mid-Atlantic region. He served as Area Physician in Chief for several large, multi-practice medical centers. He also has extensive public service experience including serving as the former Mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico (1977-85.) He received his Medical Doctorate from the University of Maryland and trained in Internal Medicine and Nephrology at the Puerto Rico Medical Center. He is a Diplomate in Internal Medicine and Nephrology.

Dr. Joan Huppi, board certified in internal and geriatric medicine, is a part-time Associate Medical Director responsible for Clinical Coordination for Inpatient Services for MAMSI's Northern Virginia operations. She has been a practicing physician in Internal Medicine for over 16 years. She received her M.D. degree from the University of South Florida, interned and completed her residency at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, and completed a fellowship in research pathology at the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia.
