MAMSI Children's Foundation, Inc. Makes its First Award

Rockville, MD –- MAMSI Children's Foundation, Inc. (Foundation) announced today that it awarded its first grant.

The award recipient, a 15 year old girl from the Eastern Shore, has a severe condition known as recurrent cystic hygromas that complicates routine dental care. While the award recipient's medical insurance covered the cost of the general anesthesia and other medical services needed during routine dental care, the family did not have dental coverage to pay for the routine dental care. The Foundation paid for the cost of the award recipient's routine dental care.

"The Foundation is pleased to make its first award," announced Larry Pignone, Chairman of the Foundation. "Our first award illustrates the types of gaps in coverage families often face and the Foundation will help to fill these gaps.""

Little public attention is paid to children who are covered by public or private health insurance but need services or items that are not covered under these policies. The MAMSI Children's Foundation was formed to assist with these "gaps" in coverage.

MAMSI Health Plans launched the MAMSI Children's Foundation last year with a $50,000 donation. MAMSI's employees may contribute to the Foundation through payroll deduction, and MAMSI matches the first $2 of each payroll deduction. Other individuals interested in making a contribution to the Foundation may contact Dan Willoth, Executive Director, MAMSI Children's Foundation, Inc., 4 Taft Court, Rockville, MD 20850. Mr. Willoth may be reached by telephone at 301-738-6982.
