MAMSI Board Selects Chairman and President and CEO
Rockville, MD Mid Atlantic Medical Services, Inc. (MAMSI) announced today at its annual meeting of shareholders that the Board of Directors, acting upon the recommendation of its Transition and Search Committee, has unanimously elected Mark D. Groban, M.D., Chairman of the Board, and Thomas P. Barbera, Esq., President and CEO of MAMSI.
"The Board is pleased that it was able to find two highly qualified and effective leaders here at MAMSI to move the company forward", said John Mamana, M.D., spokesperson for the Transition and Search Committee. "We are confident that Dr. Groban and Mr. Barbera have the talent, vision, experience, and business acumen to assure the best for our shareholders, customers and medical partners."
Dr. Mark Groban joined MAMSI full time in 1990. He has been President of MAMSIs two preferred provider organizations, Alliance PPO, LLC and MAPSI and has served as medical director for Behavioral Health and Quality Improvement. Mr. Barbera joined MAMSI in 1993. He has been Vice-Chairman and Executive Vice President of the Government Health Services Division.

In other news, the company announced that the shareholders elected six Board members. The six are: Francis C. Bruno, M.D., Janet L. Norwood, John A. Paganelli, Ivan R. Sabel, James A. Wild, and Thomas P. Barbera. These six members join John H. Cook III, M.D., Raymond H. Cypess, D.V.M., Ph.D., Robert E. Foss, Mark D. Groban, M.D., John P. Mamana, M.D., William M. Mayer, M.D., Edward J. Muhl, and Gretchen P. Murdza on the Board of Directors.
